Look What I Found At Small Object Steno Pad!

At 'The Small Object Steno Pad', there is a tutorial for reusable sandwich wrap. A useful item in my effort to reduce, recycle and reuse endeavours! But I think I will make a minor adjustment - what? I dont know yet! Something so that my food will not be placed directly on the plastic fabric. But dont hold your breath, I am famous for being the slowest stitcher ever!

Just a quick note to say that the pictures of our 1st day at the KLAB are available here:

I had a great time yesterday and am really pleased with the results of the first day...

On a personal note, I managed to get a copy of David Morrell's Scavenger! Yippee! Will post pictures of newly acquired books later ... cos they are in the car and I have not been out of the apartment yet!


The only picture taken @ the KLAB that included moi and Katie. In addition there is Soe Chin with a group of lovely college students who all took a book or two each!

Hey, folks -

Let's do some charity and at the same time, have some fun, too? My old pal, Linda has a friend Billie, who is in the AWAM organising committee and she's trying to get as many people as possible to join in this event. After all, it's only RM40, it's for a good cause and it sure beats the boredom of staying home & watching RTM on a Sunday afternoon, urgggghhs....

So, I'll see you on 15 June, then.....??? It's held at the Berjaya Time Square in KL, so it's not far away. KL is near, ok? It's not in Genting, not in Bukit Beruntung, not in Sepang, but in KUALA LUMPUR, so distance shouldn't be one of your excuses leh, wokay?....

NNC Charm Exchange Organised by Janet

My first ever patchwork/quilting venture, A Charm Exchange organised by Janet from Ipoh. Five of us sent out packs of ten (10) different fabrics in 5" x 5" squares to each other. No sewing involved... well not until a later date and I am hoping a muuuccchh lattteer date!

(And 'Dania's Mother' had so generously sent me five pieces of 5"x5" in six different fabrics from her own stash when she learnt of my 'involvement' in this Charm Exchange! She spoilts me so much! Malaysian_Bookcrossers March 08 Meetup!

By popular demand we returned to Amcorp Mall for our March 08 meetup but this time we gathered at Uncle Chili Restaurant on the lower ground floor. And we totally forgot to snap pictures of the food!!! Now how did that happened?

Anyway the snacks and main dishes were tasty enough ~ we had fried wantan, fried vegetables and fish balls, deep fried brinjals ~ yummy! We had the following main dishes ~ spicy fish fillet rice, seafood with rice, tomyam noodles, cantonese fried noodles and chicken porridge. Dessert was Lotus paste pancakes!

Much was discussed at the meetup, topics included events where the Kuala Lumpur chapter members at Malaysian_bookcrossers would be participating ~ The Terry Fox Run later this year and nearer at hand would be the following:

While back in Melaka a couple of weeks back, saw these:

Things needed for Chinese wedding ceremonies. The red and black baskets are Nyonya ones typical of Melaka:

Note:
I just checked with a nyonya gurl friend of mine and she informs that the baskets are used throughout the year as well either to carry gifts of fruits, kueh muih etc, food when visiting friends and neighbours. The baskets are made in China and are more widely used by the Peranakans (nyonya & baba) located in Penang, Melaka and Singapore.

Where I walk........

While DH walks the perimeter of our apartment complex, I prefer walking the path available in our courtyard of the apartment complex. There are three such courtyards but I prefer ours which is L shaped:

I resumed my morning walks this week, started off with a 30 minutes walk on Monday, 45 mins on Wednesday and 30 mins on Friday. My plan is: the mornings I dont walk I either do some housework or go marketing at the wet market for fresh produce. All in all, I am rather happy with my first week back to exercise!

What you are about to see was seen at a Chinese modern dance competition broadcasted on one of China's TV stations. One couple won one of the top prizes. The lady has one arm and the guy has one leg. They performed gracefully and beautifully.

The lady in her 30s was a dancer and was trained as one since she was a little girl. Later she got into some kind of accident and lost her entire left arm. She was depressed for a few years. It seemed that someone asked her to coach a children's dancing group. From that point on, she realized she could not forget dancing. She still loved to dance. She wanted to dance again. So she started to do some of her old routines. But by her losing an arm, she also lost her balance. It took a while before she could even making simple turns and spins without falling. Eventually she got it.

Then she heard some guy in his 20s had lost a leg in an accident. This guy also fell into the usual denial, depression and anger type of emotional roller coaster. She looked him up (seemingly he was from a different Province) and persuaded him to dance with her. He had never danced. And to dance with one leg? Are you joking with me? No way. But she didn't give up. He reluctantly agreed. ' I have nothing else to do anyway.' She started to teach him dancing 101. The two broke up a few times because the guy had no concept of using muscle, control his body, and a few other basic things about dancing. Whe n she became frustrated and lost patience with him, he would walk out. Eventually they came back together and started training. They hired a choreographer to design routines for them. She would fly high (held by him) with both arms (a sleeve for an arm) flying in the air. He could bend horizontally supported by one leg and she leaning on him, etc. They danced beautifully and they legitimately beat others in the competition.

I would like to share with you this most magnificent and touching performance I have ever seen! It is a living proof that strong spirit can conquer any physical limitations!
